LEVEL Announces Winners of Their Annual Student Design Competition

San Luis Obispo, CA (PRWEB) June 4, 2010

LEVEL Studios, an independent digital agency, today announced the winners of the companys annual student design competition. Open to all students in attendance at California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly), the competition offered both print and interactive categories and awarded students with prizes such as an Apple iMac, Apple iPad and subscriptions to Communication Arts magazine.

In 2008, LEVEL created the inaugural CP Design Competition as a way to contribute to Californias educational system while simultaneously unearthing upcoming creative talent. In an ongoing effort to foster interaction between LEVEL and Cal Poly student designers, this years competition and corresponding website (http://www.level-studios.com/designcompetition) received a variety of work entered by Art and Design and Graphic Communication students. Entries were judged by a panel of LEVEL Creative Directors based on execution, functionality, innovation and presentation. LEVEL awarded the following five students for their outstanding work:

Best Overall: Tierney Cunningham
Best of Print: Mai-Chi Vu
Best of Interactive: Paul Cha
Honorable Mention, Print: Adam Wirdak
Honorable Mention, Interactive: Justin Rodriguez

The competition results will be presented at Cal Polys Spring Push Pin show, where the College of Art and Design students exhibit their best work. In addition to their prizes, the winning students will have an opportunity to showcase their work to all LEVEL creative professionals across the three studios.

A key challenge in the agency world is the acquisition of talent. We primarily host the CP Design Competition to help shape students into the next generation of creative artists, but the competition has also turned into a recruiting initiative. To date, we have hired four participants as full-time designers, stated Alexander Mahernia, VP | Executive Creative Director at LEVEL Studios. Building on the success of this program, we plan to extend these competitions to other universities near our San Jose and Los Angeles studio locations.

The CP Design Competition followed closely on the heels of another technology-inspired Cal Poly contest. In March, LEVEL judged the universitys mobile application development competition in which student engineers were tasked with developing compelling applications based on the Google Android platform.
